Off Road driving - Five rules for begginers

1. May the no-force be with you

The slogan "what does not go by force, goes by more force" is appropriate for young soldiers in a patrol unit. It is not suitable for off-road vehicles that are supposed to serve us on road trips after a day of hiking. In most cases the car gets stuck due to a lack of  grip between the tires and the ground and not due to a lack of power. If you step harder on the gas, the wheels will flutter more in the same place. It will make a lot of dust, noise and ringing sounds, it will hurt the tires, it will dig potholes in the field but it will not help you to progress.

2. Continuous movement

The key is to maintain momentum. The driver needs to make sure that the vehicle is in constant and continuous motion. The trick is "stable foot on the gas" - constantly pressing the fuel pedal, minimal constant pressure. The difficulty is mental. Sometimes the road is very bumpy, steep and scary. The driver is afraid, the driver is hesitant, the driver does not press the pedal continuously. In short, a small switch in the brain and the vehicle goes through everything. Or almost everything

3. Slowly

Driving too fast achieves nothing. The vehicle shakes and bounces, the ventral space shortens, the vehicle may be hurt and damaged, the passengers suffer. It is best to drive slowly. The thing is though, you can't always drive slow. Sometimes slow means getting stuck. Sometimes there is no choice and you have to drive fast - especially if the vehicle is not equipped with good tires, during a proper suspension, power transmission, differential locks, etc. In such cases, when we are driving a "soft" off-road vehicle  and we have to climb a steep slope, we must maintain a strong momentum.

4. And if you get stuck (A)

Stuck up a steep hill? Please do not try to continue climbing. It is better to give up. Even if there are plenty of of spectators. Even if someone whistles contemptuously. What might happen if you still insist on showing everyone Who's the Man. Because the grip of the rear wheels is higher (they have more weight on them), the vehicle may be thrown to the side and get caught on a side slope where only God can save you.
In short, if you get stuck in reverse gear and slide back down in a straight line, that is, perpendicular to a slope - the goal, again, is not to get caught in a side slope.

5. And if you get stuck (B)

The vehicle sits on the undercarriage, the vehicle enters a hard cross, the vehicle is stuck. What to do?
First of all, you should drink tea. Drink tea even if you are not thirsty, drink tea even if you are a meter away from home (you usually get stuck a meter away from home), even if it seems to you that you are solving the problem. Drink tea and only then return to the wheel. Tea or coffee is a time-out that allows you to relax a bit and then plan your own rescue with a clear mind.
